So what do you lot have to say about BATT tyres? specifically the enduro extreme and the ProExtreme. Seems like they pretty cheap and last forever. Im looking for an affordable option for local practice rides to get some saddle time in. Mitas are a bit on the expensive side if you go through them like 1-2 a month(they are my tyre of choice though).

EF07 Yellow is dan jou antwoord! Vra jou local dealer om vir jou te bestel. 20hrs + op 'n band.

In my experience the batt extreme is not a bad tyre and copes quite well in wet and dry but what meats the eye and its life span does not make sense. So what happens is the tyre still looks great but it stops hooking up fairly quickly after the 1st couple of rides whereas the Mitas will last and hook even if it has no hair or teeth.

But Im a keyboard racer. The experts will chip in shortly

ya Darren use the 6 days at heidleberg they last longer on the rocks , I also use Mitas alot |EF07 single greens , currently have 13 hanging in the rafters awaiting rides like mountain madalas , matat2pont and man and machine and lowvelds , very happy with both tyres , just prefer the 6 days soft for heidelberg and guateng rides but not when its been raining

Ok just to add Pricing seems to be Batt extreme R750 roughly and R900 for pro extreme both soft and mid compound (so compares to mitas green and yellow, I don't think Batt do Gummy tyres) VS Mitas ef-07 at roughly R 1200 for green R1250 for 2xgreen and R1150 for yellow.

Ok R1150 for a yellow is very steep compared to the Batt.

    But for the 250 extra . . . .

Yes by all means your budget dictates but I have a bunch of riding mates who had the same views thinking a Maxxis combo is the shit cos it lasts longer than wheel bearings. Now that they are forking out for maintenance and better consumables they are also enjoying their riding and new found traction way more than in the past.

But yes. The pinch is real.

TMan, how do you work hours on a tyre, it all depends what terrain you riding

Its very simple actually. You look at how many hours your bike has on when you fit the new tyre. And then when its fuckt you take another look at the hours. Workout the total sum difference and you will see how many hours your tyre lasted.

Ok, so I can put a new tyre on and go and ride the grass hills in the Transkei for 20 hours, no rocks or hard roads and at 20 hours it will still be new

Never, why would you think that it will still be new after 20hrs?

So yes Ian you are correct it’s difficult to use hours on a tyre as an example because your 20hrs will not be the same as my 20 hrs. However the comment in usable life out of a tyre is very relevant. I had 2 guys tell me that they use “brand X” because its 15% cheaper than the Mitas. So I convinced one to fit a Mitas and the other oke stayed with brand X . A month later I spoke to them and saw both suddenly had Mitas on and asked whats up. Well apparently after his tyre wore he said it just got progressively worse but hadn’t noticed it before as it happened to the both of them, but said he got sick of his mate riding away from him. The bottom line was even thou the Mitas was more expensive initially it was cheaper in the long run as they was probably 30% more usable life out if it.

Jedi, im sending ypu my stock pile. I demand I get the same tyres as Ian that grips and does not wear in 20hrs.

But jedi supports both my statements. I have used a soft batt, they are better than a hole bunch of other tyres on the market for sure but are finished before they even look worn down.

I was in the same position as StefanKTM a few years ago, when you up the hrs you cycl3 around consables to get a happy medium. Problem is, once you've seen what a seriously soft compound can do its difficult to settle for less.

I used 2 yellow EF07, and after that I was back to consuming softer compounds again as an everyday tyre cos ypu hate yourself when you are caught in the wet with a less preferencial compound.

BUT, i did say im a keyboard racer and someone like Jedi will show the light!
