    my advice is to not budget! Pay for the necessities (entry, accommodation, tyre for the event etc) don't waste money on bling ... if you start adding things up in this sport you will quickly stop riding. And can you imagine what will happen if your wife comes across this page or your budget list?!?!

    In my experience just having a relatively soft mousse (0.6-0.8 bar) in the back wil already give you a world more grip irrespective of the tyre you put on it (compared to tubes). I ride with Mitas tyres, most guys will tell you Mitas EF-07 is the way to go. I only use the Mitas C-26 Double green which is more of a MX type tread but with a Gummy compound, in my opinion they are perfect for my riding: they grip awesome when new and last close to forever if you rotate them at the right time. I get about 30 hours + out of a rear tyre. I have one that I recently threw off after 30 hours did a national enduro on it, a lot of practice rides and could still cope well on the Prologue day at Battle Valleys this past weekend before I replaced it for the main race. Price is R1000 -R1300 depending on where you buy. But you get a lot of life out of a tyre. The EF-07 I only got 20 hour out of a single green.
    In my opinion Mitas C-26 is the best budget tyre you can buy, it is expensive to buy but lasts very very long and you learn to ride with a consistent level of grip as compared to practicing with a dunlop mx tyre and racing with a expensive gummy.

    Very valid point you make there Stefan that has not been mentioned here before. But riding with kak tyres will only help you with fitness a you will scrum your mielie in half. Then when it comes to an event, you push harder and with new found grip you might not know what to do with it and the extra intensity will wear you down even faster.

    I personally dont like the C26 but one should always ride with something similar so that your action and terrain can remain predictable. Im sure the C26 will have a little better grip than a Yellow EF07 however the yellow should last slightly longer.

    Then changing between yellow and green for events is not such a massive difference in the bikes behavior as per your example of MX tyre and then hello Gummy if that makes any sense.

    4 days riding and about 350km and it still looks like this

    Ive seen it here and in real life. Uninformed people or maybe just a common misconception is that green is supposed to grip come hell or high water which is not the case.

    There are different types of greens. I might be wrong but the Jedi himself can correct me, but shortly we will have 4 (maybe 5 depending on how I count) different green compounds available locally and im not talking about 1 or 2 stripes on the tyre.

    1. C18 green is P for fuck hard
    2. EF 07 single and double
    3. C26 single and double (not sure if the single is actually available locally)
    4. C16 double green (also not sure if it has a single variant and if it perhaps has the same compound as the C26??)
    5. Terraforce single and double green. Feedback from Romaniacs is that this tyre is gonna be the new it!

    I have not used the C16 yet, but in the same terrain as the C26 it shows similar wear in terms of how the knobbies flake but doesnt last nearly as long as the C26. Id say this is due to the difference in tread pattern and carcass size or it could be slightly different compound. Compared to and EF07 these 2 tyres feel rubberyAF and the compound IMO feels close to those of the Kenda. I actually think regardless of size and pattern the Kenda Ibex and Mitas C26 will go toe to toe when it comes to performance but you will use 4 Kenda's in the time that you use 1 C26.

    Dont get me wrong and I have not done any documented studies but these tyres mentioned above does offer excellent grip however In my experience the EF07 is just far more superior.

    C18 green will last twice as long as any of these double green tyres but it will not offer the same performance in extreme terrain which is what I refer to when judging tyres above.

    Im really keen to try the new Terraforce in Single green when it comes. I have in the past fitted double greens with a mousse rim but going forward ill stick to single green and my tubliss.

    I've had one for around a year now.
    They're pretty decent - however I think my mousse has actually gotten harder, or just stayed the same since I bought it.
    After a years use you'd expect it to be super soft, or fucked. But its still the same, barring cuts and gashes.

    On fast paced races/rides I use it, but slow/tech I switch to my 120 nitro & 140 Kenda.

    They do have a very dead feeling to them in comparison to a Nitro.
    I use their front mousses, seem alright. But thinking of going back to nitro, even though they're +-R800 more.

    very good option then, cost the same as 3 heavy duty tubes...
