    Piesangkloof 4x4 - Magaliesberg

This weekend myself, @Wobbler and two other chaps rode at a place called Piesangkloof 4x4, in the Magaliesberg.

Location: About 20km west of Chameleon Village on the northern side of Hartebeespoort dam (about 25 - 30mins drive from Arrows rest)

Entrance fee: R150 per bike for the day, and its probably best to make a full day of it, as the venue is quite far out of town and the facilities are really awesome for a braai and a few beers afterwards

    The riding:

First of all this place has by far the biggest mountains in Gauteng and makes any other koppie or mountain riding venue seem insignificant in size.

There are 4x4 tracks, riverbeds, kloofs, flat quartzite rock areas (like Heidelberg) and plenty of loose horrible climbs that go on forever.

Most of the trails we rode were rocky 4x4 Jeep tracks (actually make that VERY rocky Jeep tracks) that wind up the mountain and along the crest of the Magaliesberg with some spectacular views.

The rest of the area is virtually unridden and hence we did a lot of bundu bashing whilst in search of trails/paths, we did find a couple which were either very steep or off-camber with some scary drop offs into thick forest...

There are a number of hiking routes that the owner of the farm subsequently pointed out to me.

There is potential for some seriously good riding here (mild to extreme), the place just needs to be ridden and explored with a GPS.

I for one will be heading back ASAP!
