They not even 100% sure it has the box, but they pretty sure ha ha. It's a 2010 for R30k at RBS Yamaha

The suspension side of things should be ok?

Other than weight, what other advantages are there of having the YZ250 as opposed to my 450 SXF? technically they the same bike? Howcome the YZ can be transformed so easily?

What other options should I be looking at? Any of the enduro offerings from KTM?

The YZ has loads of cross over parts from the older WR Yamaha models which makes the conversion very easy. You could do it with your bike, but it would cost a shed load of cash (new gearbox & new ECU at least). I've ridden the YZ250X, essentially a Yamaha factory converted bike, and it is an excellent bike for enduro (though maybe not the super hard stuff where loads of restarting is required) which you can also take to the track as well if you want.

Any of the reputable brand bikes (Yamaha, KTM, Husky, Beta, Gas Gas) are good choices to ride enduro (parts and workshop support excluded). Try and go on some rides to see what it is all about, especially if you can get a dealer or a friend to loan you a suitable bike. Try as many different ones as you can to find what works for you. Contrary to popular belief the 300 2T is not the answer to all life's questions

You can almost get a 2010 KTM 300 for that price.

Yeah had a look earlier, saw a few. Worth it? Don't know them too well. i did see one or two with around 250hours on which worries me a bit. Being used to MX I normally see the 80hour mark haha

250 hours for an XC-W is nothing provided it has been well maintained. Budget on some starter maintenance and a new top end though

my 2c comming from a few converted-mx bikes. the main issue (even with the flywheel weight) is that they rev up very quickly and then you start loosing traction, whereas a proper enduro bike has the ability to chug at lower revs and has a more linear powerband. If you are willing to play with carb needles i am sure there will be one that will give you the more linear power, but you won't get way from the original engine characteristics of the bike.

I believe the change can also be done on the 450, but not sure about a newer 450

There will be a fun ride next weekend. It's called the Rhino Fun Ride, from Westmead to Cato Ridge. Look it up on Facebook. The route shouldn't be very hard and they are having a braai afterwards, so perfect opportunity for you to meet other people in the area that you can ride with. Also join Facebook groups like Upper Highway dirtbike riders, Outriders or Pinetown Off Road Club - PORC (like someone else mentioned).
