    TPI Oil

Found some info on another site about different oils being used in the TPI bikes. Seems Motorex is the only one to use unless you can find an oil that matches the viscosity of the Motorex.

"A friend is doing some tests in the TPI oil pump of his bike.

He discovered that using diferent oils the results were rather conclusive.

Using Motorex or a similar oil with the same viscosity 56 at 40 C mm/s the oil pump in each impulse releases one drop of oil.

    Using a lower viscosity oil:

Putoline MX5 viscosity 33.70 at 40 C mm/s the oil pump needs several impulses to release one drop of oil.

    Using an higher viscosity oil:

Castrol A747 viscosity 178 at 40 C mm/s is too tick and the oil pump also needs several impulses to release one drop of oil.

Results were consistent, oils were at the same temperature and he even warmed up some of them for better testing accuracy."

So is everyone running that exact oil in their TPi's? Is that possibly what is causing the "issues" some guys are reporting?

I heard of someone saying they run a 20:1 or 30:1 pre mix ratio in their tank for their TPi so that it is not too lean. Just doesn't sound right though?

If your bike (TPI) is running lean, or idling badly.. Best thing to do is the throttle/idle mod.
Adding extra oil into your fuel tank, is just asking for kak imo.

BTW Dean is the oldest rider I know. But he is on a 4T so can't be him

This guy is older I think and probably ridden a lot more (raced). I also think its an odd thing to do. But its more flat taps orientated apparently. Not sure how lean it goes on WOT. Some say 100:1 ?

Oil in the fuel tank of a TPI is only going to clog the injectors. And no Oz, at WOT it will be pumping more oil to keep the bearings happy. Once again you should not listen to everything you hear. Apply some critical though asseblief

That is exactly what I thought would happen as well. And injectors are expensive. Not sure on the ktm, but on one of my old ltr's I clogged an injector, it was basically a case of throw away and replace.

It made me extremely happy and comfortable, so I would say yes.
